Talk: Words Without Music

Renowned composer Philip Glass visited Google's Cambridge, MA office to discuss his memoir, "Words Without Music", and his life and career. The New York Times has called him “the most prolific and popular of all contemporary composers”. Everyone, it seems, has a strong opinion about his music. Now meet the man behind it.

Philip Glass

Philip Glass is an American composer. He is considered one of the most influential music makers of the late 20th century. He is a composer of "music with repetitive structures," and he's orchestrated operas, symphonies, and film scores. He founded his namesake group, the Philip Glass Ensemble, and continues to play keyboard to this day.

The Book

Philip Glass has, almost single-handedly, crafted the dominant sound of 20th classical music. Yet in Words Without Music, he creates an entirely new and unexpected voice, that of a born storyteller and an acutely insightful chronicler, whose behind-the-scenes recollections allow readers to experience those moments of creative fusion when life so magically merged with art.
