Everything has soul, and hockey is no different. Filmmaker Damon Kwame Mason will join us to discuss his latest documentary, Soul on Ice with special guests Willie O'Ree, Anson Carter, and Jessica Berman.

Kwame Mason

Damon Kwame Mason was born and raised in Toronto Ontario Canada where he has been working in the entertainment field since 1996. Recently, Kwame finished a film documentary film called Soul On Ice: Past, Present & Future about the history and contribution of black athletes in hockey.

Anson Carter

Anson Carter is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player. He has played for eight different National Hockey League teams, most notably with the Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks. He is also the founder of Big Up Entertainment, a record label specializing in hip hop music. Carter also works as a hockey analyst for NBC Sports Network and for MSG network.

Willie O'Ree

Willie O'Ree is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, known best for being the first black player in the National Hockey League. O'Ree played as a winger for the Boston Bruins.

For decades, hockey was seen as a homogeneous sport - exciting to watch but played by one kind of player. Soul On Ice presents the exploits of athletes who dared to stand out, and dared to make the sport their own.
