Talk: Quantum Computation for the Discovery of New Materials and and Chemistry

In this talk, Jarrod McClean starts from the ground up and explain what quantum computation is, and what it is not. This leads to a discussion of why now is the right time to be thinking about this new technology and some of the recent developments that have been made, laying the groundwork for the future of this computing model. Jarrod then argues that some of the first applications of this technology will be in the discovery of new materials and chemistry, and describes recent research efforts in this regard. These include implementations of new algorithms on real quantum devices.
