Talk: Deaf Spotlight Presents SKIN, a Theatrical Production in ASL

The cast of Deaf Spotlight’s theatrical production, SKIN, performs an excerpt from the play and then discusses the production itself, experiences being on the stage, behind the stage, and how they work together to make it all happen. SKIN was written by emerging playwright Crystal L.M. Roberts and directed by Alexandria Wailes. The story follows four Deaf queer women who are struggling to make sense of violence, sex, love and friendship amidst a changing landscape, Seattle’s Capitol Hill.

Alexandria Wailes

Alexandria Wailes is an American deaf actress. She utilizes the languages of English and American Sign Language.

Patty Liang

Patty Liang is an Executive Director for deafspotlight.com. Patty is an artist and community member, she believes in implementing creative and collaborative opportunities for and giving back to the Deaf community.

Rhonda Cochran

Rhonda Cochran is an avid theater lover/goer, Rhonda also has enjoyed behind the scene work as a ASL Coach and Interpreter for local theaters. Outside of the theater, Rhonda enjoys spending time with her family and is the mother of Theresa and grandma to 2 beautiful girls.

Kalen Feeney

Kalen Feeney is a Washington native. Kalen toured with the National Theatre of the Deaf and has trained with the American Conservatory Theatre, Deaf West Theatre, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. She has appeared on Cold Case and Switched at Birth. In addition, Kalen is a screenwriter and has produced several short films.

Amelia Hensley

Amelia Hensley landed the lead role in in her first professional production Children of a Lesser God with the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. Her recent works include the critically acclaimed I was most alive with you, directed by Craig Lucas, and starring in the role of Thea in Deaf West Theater’s Spring Awakening on Broadway in 2015-16.

Michelle Mary Schaefer

Michelle Mary Schaefer, not new to the stage, was the first Deaf Female Actor who challenged herself by portraying as Billy as a guy in Tribes by Nina Raines three times last year. Schaefer has also recently portrayed as Sarah Norman in Children of a Lesser God in Tampa, Florida.
