Talk: A Visual Guide to Making Sushi at Home

Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani are the chef-proprietors of two prominent Bay Area restaurants: Terra in Napa Valley and Ame in San Francisco. Both perennial recipients of Michelin stars, as well as the SF Chronicle's Top 100 Restaurants list. Hiro, who is often described as the chef who "does fusion right," straddles the fine dining traditions of his native Japan and Western food; together, the husband-and-wife team are teaching all they have learned about living in America and making sushi at home.

Hiro Sone

Chef Hiro Sone believes that cooking is art. His innovative palate mixes unexpected flavors from Italy, France, and the Orient. His beautifully designed dishes emerge from the kitchen as composed paintings on a canvas. Hiro was named "Best California Chef" in 2003 by the James Beard Foundation.

Lissa Doumani

Wolfgang Puck hired Lissa Doumani as a pastry cook at Spago, where she worked under baker Nancy Silverton, founder of La Brea Bakery. After meeting Hiro at Spago in Los Angeles, she went to the Tokyo to train the pastry chef. Her work has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation with its 2008 Outstanding Service Award.
